Disconnect to Reconnect: Celebrating National Unplug Day!

National Day of Unplugging is happening next weekend, March 1st! This day is meant for a much-needed detox. A detox from all screens, social media, and anything that can cause stress. Go outside for a walk, grab a book to read, and spend this time with your friends and family. This could be a great bonding opportunity for couples!

My husband and I love doing anything outside. Our dog loves to play water fetch, go for walks, and even sunbathe. So it is only fitting if we spend National Unplug Day outside with our furbaby. Here are a few other ideas we have in mind and want to share them with you guys!

  1. Get Outside: Plan a day trip to a nearby nature spot such as a national park, beach, or forest, whatever is closest to you! Go hiking, picnicking, or simply taking in the beauty of the natural surroundings. Leave your phones behind and immerse yourselves in the peacefulness of nature. Bring your furbaby along so your whole family can be together! Vitamin D is one of the best medicines, and it is free!

  2. Cook Together: Spend the day cooking a special meal together. Choose a recipe you've both been wanting to try. Go to the grocery store and buy all of the ingredients you need. The grocery store can be a dreading task, but if you do it together it will make a lot more enjoyable. Enjoy the process of preparing and cooking the meal together. There are many benefits to cooking together, and strengthening your relationships is the top one. Make it extra special by setting the table with candles and enjoying a romantic homemade dinner.

  3. Board Games: If you come from a board game family then this is the activity for you! Even if you are not from a board game family, this is the perfect opportunity to start new traditions for the family you and your spouse are creating! Go to the store and pick out a board game that sounds fun to you guys. Go home and start playing!

  4. Quality Conversations: Spend quality time talking and reconnecting with each other. Take turns asking meaningful questions, sharing stories, and expressing gratitude for one another. Use this time to deepen your connection and strengthen your relationship. Having a quality conversation while eating the nice dinner both of you prepared.

Although this day only happens one day a year, it does not have to happen one day a year on your calendar. Hopefully, this day serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of disconnecting from our devices and engaging with the world around us. After you see the benefits of what unplugging can do for you and your partner’s well-being, make it a priority to unplug once a month. Do different activities each day you plan to unplug, keep it interesting, and make it fun!

Remember, the National Day of Unplugging is about prioritizing your relationship and enjoying each other's company without any distractions. Embrace the opportunity to disconnect and create cherished memories together. How do you and your spouse plan to spend the day unplugged? I would love to get new ideas for my husband and I!
